Google Keep Location Reminders Are Gone: What Now?

If you used Google Keep to remind you of something when you reached home or the shop, you may have noticed it no longer rings. Google’s help page says it plainly: “You can no longer create or get location-based reminders.”

This post explains what changed, where your Keep reminders went, and how to get reminders by place again on Android, free, with Karo.

What changed in Google Keep

According to the same page, Google moved Keep’s reminders to Google Tasks in the second half of 2025. New reminders are saved as tasks, and Keep itself no longer sends reminder notifications. Reminders for a place were not carried over: they can no longer be made or received.

Google Tasks, where Keep reminders moved, is built around due dates and notifications. Its help pages do not describe reminders for a place.

Why place reminders matter

Some jobs only make sense in one place: pay the electricity bill when you get home, count the stock when you reach the warehouse, deposit the cash at the bank. A reminder at 6 pm rings whether you are there or stuck in traffic.

Place reminders in Karo

Karo, a free task manager for giving and tracking work, has place reminders in its Android app. They work on tasks you give yourself:

In Karo, open Places, tap Add a place, name it, such as Home or Warehouse, and set where it is: use your current location, search for an address, or paste coordinates or a full Google Maps link.
Choose how near counts as being there. A new place starts at 100 metres; pick 100, 150, 200 or 500 metres, or your own from 50 metres to 1 km.
Give yourself a task and choose the place under Remind me at a place.

When you arrive, Karo reminds you about the open tasks on that place. It rings once per visit, and not again for the same place within two hours.

Before you switch

Place reminders ring in the Android app only. On iPhone and the web you can save places and put them on your tasks, but the reminder itself rings on Android.
They are for your own tasks. A place is yours alone, so it does not go on a task you give someone else.
You can save up to 20 places.
Your phone works out where it is on the phone, and that is never sent to Karo. Karo keeps only the places you save. Our privacy policy explains it in full.
